Govt taking action on incident with Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman has termed the 'discourteous' behaviour of the immigration authorities towards Prime Minister's adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman at the Delhi airport in India as undesirable and regrettable. 

He also said that the Bangladesh government is taking appropriate action in this regard.

He made the comments while addressing reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Monday. 

Khalilur Rahman said that the Foreign Ministry is taking appropriate action in this regard. “We will inform you in detail about this by the end of today.”

After the Foreign Minister, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam spoke to reporters at the ministry in this regard. 

She said, "After knowing the entire incident regarding Prime Minister's adviser Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman at the New Delhi airport in India, if any action is to be taken, we will take action accordingly. Our Foreign Ministry officials are working on this matter."

Earlier, Prime Minister's Policy and Strategy Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman went to Delhi from Dhaka on Sunday to attend the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) conference. 

He decided to return home due to the discourteous behaviour of the airport authorities there. Sources close to the adviser confirmed this information to Daily Samakal.

The adviser landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka via Colombo, Sri Lanka at around 11:30 am on Monday. 

When journalists present at the airport asked him about the incident in Delhi, he refused to comment.

A responsible official of the Foreign Ministry said that the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi had officially informed the Indian Ministry of External Affairs about the adviser's participation in the meeting last Friday.
