Garment workers lift blockade after three hours

The garment workers have lifted the blockade from the Mohakhali-Tejgaon connecting road after about three hours. Earlier, around 10 am on Tuesday, they blocked the road with seven demands, including outstanding salaries and earned leave money.

As a result of the blockade, all types of traffic on both sides of the road were completely stopped, causing extreme suffering to ordinary passengers and office-going people.

On reaching the spot, it was seen that hundreds of garment workers were sitting on the Mohakhali-Tejgaon connecting road. This sudden blockade by the workers caused severe traffic congestion in the area. 

A large number of law enforcement officers were deployed at the spot to control the situation.

The protesting garment workers raised seven specific demands to collect their dues. Their demands included the outstanding salaries for the month of May of this year must be paid immediately, the earned leave money for 2025 must be paid, the outstanding area bill for December 2025 must be paid, the notice pay bill must be paid, the next four months or 120 days of salary and allowance must be paid in advance according to the prevailing labour law, 100 percent of the service benefits of all workers and employees must be paid in accordance with the labour law, and in order to pay the workers and employees their dues, any kind of harassment such as police cases, threats, intimidation, or physical and mental torture must be completely refrained from.

Tejgaon Police Station OC Mahbubur Rahman told Daily Samakal that shortly after 10 am, the workers went down to a point adjacent to Love Road on the Tejgaon-Mohakhali road to demand their outstanding salary.
