5 Bangladeshis killed in Qatar road accident

At least six people, including five Bangladeshis, were killed in a road accident in the Al Shahania area of Qatar on Saturday morning local time. 

The five Bangladeshis who died were residents of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet.

The victims are Jubayer Ahmed, son of Ahsan Mia of Majhtaluk village in Gachbari area of Jhingabari union in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet; Mustaq Ahmed, son of Salim Ullah of Agtaluk village; Jibla Uddin, and Jasim Uddin of the same village, and Abdul Qadir, son of Abdun Nur of Dakshin Banigram union.

Quoting the family, Jhingabari union Parishad Chairman Abu Bakar told Daily Samakal that four of the deceased were from his area. The other was from a neighbouring union.

He said that on Saturday morning, the expatriates were going to their workplace in a pickup van. On the way, the driver lost control over its steering in Shahania area and the vehicle met with an accident. Six passengers died on the spot. Five of them were Bangladeshis and another was an Indian citizen.

Ahmed Malek, general secretary of Jalalabad Association Qatar, said that round-the-clock communication is being maintained with the Bangladesh Embassy. Arrangements are being made to send the bodies of the five deceased expatriates back to the country as soon as possible after completing the necessary legal procedures.
