Army to be deployed in 6 districts

The government has decided to deploy the army in six districts - Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gopalganj, Gazipur, Chittagong and Faridpur.

Army personnel will be deployed in these districts from June 22 to June 30, said a notification issued by the Political-2 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday.

The notification said, “There is a danger of creating sabotage and chaos through illegal processions, showdowns and other programmes by various organisations in different parts of the country whose programmes have been declared banned. As a result, there is a risk of deterioration of the overall law and order situation in various districts of the country and extensive loss of life and property.”

It said, “In such a situation, it is requested to take measures to deploy the required number of army personnel under ‘In Aid to Civil Power’ from June 22 to June 30 to maintain peace and order, ensure public safety and protect the lives and property of the people in Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Chittagong Metropolitan Area, Gazipur Metropolitan Area, Narayanganj District, Gopalganj District and Faridpur District.”
