Rafi hit by brick succumbs to injuries

Sazid Chowdhury Rafi, who received injuries at his head by brick throwing while moving with motorcycle in Kafrul, Mirpur, has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday morning.

Kafrul Police Station OC Sajjad Hossain confirmed this information to Daily Samakal. 

He said, "Rafi died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital this morning."

He said, “an attempt to murder case was filed in the incident where Rafi was injured by a brick. Three people have been arrested in this case so far. The case will now be converted into a murder case.”

The victim Rafi was returning to his home on a motorcycle around 12:30 am on June 9. A brick was thrown at him while moving by motorcycle in Ashraf Ali Gali of Purba Sheorapara under Kafrul Police Station. The video of the incident went viral on social media, causing widespread criticism.

CCTV footage shows that a young man threw a brick at Rafi while he was riding a motorcycle. He lost control of the motorcycle and fell on the road unconscious after being hit by the brick. At that time, the motorcycle was lying on his body.

The video also shows that the young man who threw the brick later tried to pull the injured Rafi out from under the motorcycle. Later, another person went there and removed the motorcycle. At one stage, the injured Rafi was picked up in an auto-rickshaw and taken to the hospital.
