Labour and trade gained importance during Tarique-Anwar meeting

A bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to strengthen bilateral relations. 

The meeting was held at 10:30 am local time on Monday at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office, Perdana Putra Building. During this, various issues related to the interests of the two countries, including labour and trade, were discussed.

Later, a delegation-level meeting was held under their leadership. During the meeting, they reviewed the overall issues of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The discussions focused on reopening the labour market for Bangladeshi workers, regularisation and renewal of work permits for Bangladeshi citizens who have become illegal for various reasons, increasing access to the Malaysian market for Bangladeshi mangoes, fruits and vegetables, Bangladesh's application to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN, Bangladesh's inclusion in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, the Rohingya issue, and cooperation in the United Nations and other multilateral forums.

After the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on Culture was signed in the presence of the Prime Ministers of the two countries. 

In addition, a document on cooperation in research and capacity building in counter-terrorism and a bilateral document on investment were exchanged. 

The Foreign Ministers of the two countries exchanged the two documents. After that, the Prime Ministers of the two countries participated in a joint press conference.
