4 children die of measles symptoms at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital

Four children died of measles symptoms at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) from 12:30 pm to 11 pm on Friday.

According to hospital sources, 16 new patients were admitted with measles symptoms in the last 24 hours. Of them, nine have recovered and returned home. 

Currently, a total of 94 children are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A total of 2,378 children were admitted to MMCH from March 17 to June 27 this year. Of them, 2,226 have recovered and returned home. So far, a total of 58 people have died of measles and its complications.

Dr. Umar Faruque, focal person on the deaths of children in the measles unit of MMCH and the current situation, said, “Actually, the situation is not bad. The condition of these patients was already bad.”

Mohammad Mainuddin Khan (administration) of the hospital, said, “We are closely monitoring the situation. We are providing regular updates to the DGHS. In this risky time for child health, parents should seek medical advice without delay as soon as symptoms appear.”
