Inu sentenced to 10 years in prison for crimes against humanity

The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has sentenced Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President and former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu to 10 years’ imprisonment after convicting him on three charges of crimes against humanity.

Inu, who is already in jail custody, was the sole accused in the case related to the killing of six people in Kushtia during the July 2024 mass uprising. The tribunal ruled that the sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 10 years in prison.

The tribunal framed eight charges against Inu on November 2, 2025. Its investigation agency submitted the probe report on September 11, 2025, with the prosecution filing formal charges two weeks later.

During the trial, 10 prosecution witnesses and two defence witnesses testified. After both sides concluded their final arguments, the tribunal reserved the case for judgment, which was delivered on Tuesday.

Inu has been held in custody in connection with the case since his arrest.
