Purbachal new city project to be added with Dhaka as DMP activities begin

The Purbachal new city project is going to be incorporated to the capital Dhaka. 

In the meantime, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) inaugurated the ‘Barkau Police Camp’ in Sector-1 of Purbachal on Wednesday morning.

In addition to adding the Purbachal project to Dhaka, the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) is meeting today, Wednesday, to discuss the proposal to form a new police station in Chattogram and three new upazilas in Chattogram, Cumilla and Mymensingh. 

The 121st meeting of NICAR will be held in the meeting room of the Cabinet Division under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This issue will be presented for approval as one of the six important proposals related to administrative reorganisation.

Meanwhile, as part of the DMP’s formal activities in the Purbachal New City Project of the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir inaugurated the ‘Barkau Police Camp’ in Sector-1 of Purbachal this Wednesday morning. 

DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presided over the inaugural ceremony organised at the RAJUK Central Mechanical Stack Yard.

The IGP said that the inauguration of the Barkau Police Camp marked the formal start of DMP’s activities in the Purbachal New City Project. 

This initiative will play an important role in developing Purbachal as a planned, safe and modern city. 

A policy decision has been made to establish four police stations, six investigation centres, two police lines and three deputy police commissioner (DC) offices under DMP in the Purbachal New City Project area. 

In addition, activities to establish 41 police boxes in different sectors are also underway.

He said to ensure the security of Purbachal, the Ministry of Home Affairs has given administrative approval to establish a police station and investigation centre. 

RAJUK has decided to allocate 29.21 acres of land in favour of Bangladesh Police. Out of this, the registration of 18.63 acres of land has been completed. The registration of the remaining land is under process. 

In the future, the Purbachal New City Project will be fully brought under the DMP and an independent department will be formed under the leadership of an additional police commissioner. For this, a proposal to create about 6,524 manpower is under consideration. 

The IGP said the establishment of a police camp in Purbachal will further accelerate the development activities of this project. 

The presence and activity of the police will create a place of trust and confidence in the minds of the people. In the initial stage, two police camps are being established in Purbachal, one of which is Barkau Purbachal Police Camp, Sector No. 1, which was inaugurated today. 

The other is the proposed Pashi Police Camp in the Pashi Thana area, the construction of which is underway. We will be able to inaugurate that camp too within the next two months. Other police stations and investigation centres will be established gradually.
