19 kg of gold seized in Shahjalal

A joint operation was conducted on Biman Bangladesh Airlines' BG-148 flight from Dubai and 19 kg of gold bars were recovered. 

The estimated market value of seized gold is around Tk45 crore.

On Thursday, at around 10:30am, 160 gold bars were initially recovered in a raid on the cargo hold of the aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.

Additional Commissioner of Customs Kamrul Hasan said that 160 gold bars were recovered from the cargo hold of the aircraft during a joint operation. Its weight is about 19 kg and its estimated market value is Tk 45 crore.

Meanwhile, sources said that the total weight of the recovered gold is about 19 kg and its market value is about Tk 45 crore.

A joint team comprising the intelligence agency, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department and the customs authorities conducted the operation.

The authorities concerned did not immediately officially know whether anyone was arrested in the incident.

However, it is said that an investigation is underway to identify the source of the recovered gold, how it was kept in the cargo hold and those involved.
