Complaint filed against Shaon, Mahi for criticizing July movement

A written complaint has been filed against actresses Meher Afroz Shaon and Mahia Mahi and a woman named Shanta Farzana with Shahbagh Police Station for criticising July Movement, making derogatory comments on social media, and spreading propaganda.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter to Daily Samakal on Saturday morning. 

He said, “A GD has been filed. An investigation is under way in this regard. After the investigation, further action will be taken according to the law.”

Three people from an organisation called 'Rashtra Sanglap Forum' filed the complaint against them on Friday morning. They are the organisation’s central member secretary ANM Ayas, central organiser Tuhin Farazi, and central chief organiser Muhammad Shah Alam Badsha.

The GD states that the accused have made various statements and posts on social media insulting and criticising the July Movement, which is an attempt to create confusion in the public mind and question the spirit of the movement. 

In the GD, a request has been made to investigate these issues and take legal action.

It is learned that an investigation is under way into the matter of the complaint. The complaint has been sent to the Cyber Crime Unit (DB Cyber) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for further legal process. 

The cyber department will verify the social media posts, statements, and related links mentioned in the complaint. If the investigation finds the truth of the complaint, further action will be taken as per law.
