Professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque passes away

Writer and researcher Professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque has died.
He breathed his last at a hospital in Mirpur in the capital on Sunday afternoon at the age of 85.
Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam confirmed the news to Daily Samakal.
He said Professor Haque died between 2.30pm and 3pm.
According to relatives, the professor had gone to a restaurant in Mirpur for lunch when he suddenly fell ill. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later passed away.
Born on 30 September 1940 in Pakundia village of Pakundia upazila in Kishoreganj, Professor Haque taught in the Bangla department at Dhaka University and served as president of the Bangla Academy.
He edited several books, including selected essays by Motaher Hossain Chowdhury, Culture of Bangladesh in the Light of History, and Swadeshchinta, as well as two periodicals, Sundaram and Lokayat.
Professor Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque received the Bangla Academy Award in 1981.
