Education Minister expresses regret over remarks

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has indicated that arrangements may be made to retake the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in Physics, Accounting, and Logic. 

He also expressed regret after facing criticism for one of his recent statements.

The minister made the remarks while participating in a discussion on a bill in the National Parliament on Tuesday.

The issue was first raised by Jamaat-e-Islami MP Shafiqul Islam during the question and answer session, and later during the bill discussion. 

Shafiqul Islam noted that students were protesting in front of the National Parliament building, demanding action, and called for a swift resolution after talking with them.

In response, the Education Minister explained that heavy rain had affected many areas on the day of the Physics, Accounting, and Logic exams. Many candidates reportedly arrived at exam centres wet, with some unable to sit the papers properly.

“We have reviewed the matter. Due to floods, the exams in all districts under the Chittagong Education Board have been postponed. Those exams will be retaken,” he said, adding: “Then I will be able to arrange to retake the Physics First Paper, Accounting and Logic exams, Insha Allah.”

Addressing the backlash over his earlier comments, the minister stated, “I did not say anything to hurt anyone intentionally. Still, if anyone was hurt by my statement, I express my regret.”
