Road blockades at four places in capital

The protesting HSC examinees have blocked roads at Uttara, Science Lab, Mirpur-10, and ECB premises in the capital for their three-point demands. 

However, the students staying at Science Lab have left the road and started a long march towards the Secretariat. Due to this blockade, traffic has been disrupted on several important roads in the capital and severe traffic jams have been created.

The students held a protest programme throughout the day on Tuesday demanding three points, including the resignation of the Education Minister. 

In continuation of this, they again blocked roads in front of the BNS Centre in Uttara on Wednesday on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, Mirpur-10 roundabout, and ECB premises. This brought traffic to a standstill. 

On the other hand, students took up positions on the road at the Science Lab intersection and continued to protest and shout slogans.

Around 3 pm, students stationed at Science Lab left the road and started a long march towards the Secretariat towards the Ministry of Education. Members of the law enforcement agencies were seen in a cautious position in front of and next to the procession. After the students left, traffic gradually returned to normal on the roads leading to Science Lab, Mirpur Road, Elephant Road, and Shahbagh.

Meanwhile, police have set up barricades in front of the Education Building. Several hundred police members have taken up positions there.

The protesting students are demanding that the HSC and equivalent exams be postponed until the disaster situation normalises. In addition, students who could not take the exams on July 13 due to inclement weather should be given the opportunity to re-examine, and that Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon resign. 

During the protest, they raised various slogans in support of these demands.

On Tuesday, the examinees blocked roads in various districts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, Chattogram, and Barishal, demanding the resignation of the Education Minister, alleging that the HSC and equivalent exams were conducted in inclement weather and that the examinees were called ‘farm chickens’. 

On Tuesday, around 11 am, as announced, the students blocked the road at the Science Lab intersection in the capital. This disrupted traffic at several important places in Dhaka. In addition, around 11 am, students of the BNS Centre gathered in the capital’s Uttara and blocked the road. This caused traffic jams in those areas.
