Former army officer Mozaffar Hossain detained over Ziaur Rahman assassination

Former Major Md. Mozaffar Hossain has been detained in connection with the assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman. 

He has been absconding for 45 years.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam told Daily Samakal at 3:45 pm on Thursday that Mozaffar was held from the DOHS area in Banani.

Former President Ziaur Rahman was assassinated at the Chittagong Circuit House in the early hours of May 30, 1981. 

The BNP founder had come to Chittagong the previous day to resolve the party's local dispute. 

Md. Mozaffar Hossain, the then major in the Bangladesh Army, fled after the assassination. 

A reward was also announced at that time for his capture.
