No explosives found in bags under Mirpur and Farmgate metro stations: DMP

The news of the discovery of two abandoned “bomb-like” objects under the capital’s Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metrorail stations created temporary panic among the public. 

Upon receiving the news, the police of the concerned police stations, senior officials and the bomb disposal team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police quickly reached the spots and strengthened security measures. 

Later, it was found that there was no bomb in either bag.

The DMP said that the bag found under the Mirpur-10 station contained a tin of Zarda and a betel leaf. And no explosives or dangerous objects were found in the bag discovered in the Farmgate area, it said.

On Saturday the DMP’s media wing said that the CTTC’s bomb disposal unit went there after receiving a report of a suspicious bag lying under the Mirpur-10 metrorail station. Initially the bag was observed through X-ray examination. It showed an image of a box-like object.

Later measures were taken to deactivate the object using a frangible disruptor following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). After that the bag was opened and it was found that there was a tin of Zarda and a betel leaf inside. No explosive or harmful object was found there.

Regarding the sack incident at Farmgate Metro Station, the DMP said that a bomb scare also spread around an abandoned sack in the Farmgate area of Tejgaon Police Station. Upon receiving the information, the Bomb Disposal Unit of CTTC went to the spot and monitored the situation. Later, after ensuring security, the sack was checked through hand entry. After the examination it was confirmed that there was no explosive or dangerous object inside the sack.
