Sheikh Hasina’s interaction has nothing to do with the Indian government, says Jaiswal

The Indian government has nothing to do with the interaction of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh, it is being organised by a private media organisation, said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesman for the country’s External Affairs Ministry.

He said this in response to a question at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs briefing on Tuesday.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesman said that Sheikh Hasina’s interaction is being organised by a private media organisation. Indian government has no connection with this event.

Randhir Jaiswal said that the Indian government does not support the statements made from that platform nor does the Indian government have any connection with it.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir said in a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi in Dhaka on Monday, “Bangladesh expects India’s co-operation in ensuring that any person from banned organisations, including the fugitive Sheikh Hasina, cannot use Indian territory to make political statements or conduct any activities aimed at creating instability within Bangladesh.”

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted the Foreign Adviser as saying, “Such activities can harm the positive progress of bilateral relations.”

The Indian High Commissioner assured that he would “consider the matter properly” and make necessary inquiries and be proactive in this regard, the press release said.
