Clash between Chhatra Dal and Shibir at Dhaka Alia Madrasa

There have been repeated clashes between leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal over the occupation of seats in the residential hall of the government-run Dhaka Alia Madrasa in Bakshibazar in the capital. 

At that time, both sides engaged in brickbat throwing and chase and counter-chase. Several people were injured in the incident. 

The two injured Chhatra Dal leaders have been receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The first clash broke out in front of the National Medical College Hospital around 3:45 pm on Tuesday. Although the situation was calm for some time, the two sides clashed again around 4:30 pm. Later, members of the law enforcement agencies tried to bring the situation under control. Additional police were deployed in the madrasa area in the evening.

Eyewitnesses and relevant sources said that tension had been going on between the leaders and activists of the two student organisations over the hall seats since morning. At one stage, it turned into a clash. Both sides hurled brickbats in the presence of the police. 

During the clash, some people were seen carrying iron pipes, sticks and country-made weapons. Several videos circulating on social media also showed the two sides engaging in a chase and counter-chase with country-made weapons.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Chawkbazar Zone Assistant Commissioner Md. Mahfuzar Rahman said in the afternoon that the police were at the scene. Despite the presence of the police, leaders and activists of both sides took positions on the campus. The police are working to control the situation.

The Chhatra Dal leaders injured in the clash are Sanaullah (30), former senior joint convener of Dhaka Alia Madrasa Chhatra Dal, and Nisar Uddin Rabbi (27), member secretary of Lalbagh Thana Chhatra Dal and joint general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra Dal. They have been treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
