Lottery system to continue for class 1 admission: Education Ministry

Students will be admitted to class 1 through a lottery system rather than admission tests starting from the 2027 academic year, according to a Ministry of Education notification issued on Thursday.

Admission to all other classes in primary and secondary schools will be based on admission tests, the notification stated.

The results of this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations are scheduled to be published on August 10, 2026.

Earlier, on March 16, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon had announced at a ministry press conference that the lottery system would be abolished from the 2027 academic year and replaced with admission tests. 

Lottery-based admission was first introduced for class 1 in government secondary schools in the 2011 academic year, replacing admission tests. The system was extended to private schools in 2012, while tests continued for classes 2 to 9.
