Industries to be set up on Banshkhali coast, says Prime Minister

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that he will take initiatives to create employment and earn foreign exchange by setting up industries and factories around the coast of Banshkhali in Chittagong. 

He said that the sea is the country’s wealth and its owners are the people. The country’s economy will be further strengthened through industrialisation by utilising the coastal area from Banshkhali to Mirsarai in a planned manner.

He made the remarks at a programme at the Baharchhara beach area of Banshkhali around 2pm on Sunday. 

Relief was distributed to flood victims and keys of houses built for the homeless were handed over at the programme.

Tarique Rahman said, “I am happy to meet you. We were able to hand over house keys to 100 people. We have provided relief assistance. The reason for doing this is that this government’s job is to create employment for the youth.”

Recalling the promise made during the election, the Prime Minister said family cards will be delivered to 4.1 million families in the country in the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal year. There is a plan to provide family cards to 10 to 15 thousand families in Banshkhali Upazila in the next fiscal year.

He said, “Farmers will be given farmer cards. Steps will be taken within a few days to ensure fair price for salt farmers.”

Referring to the potential of Banshkhali’s beaches and coastal areas, Tarique Rahman said, “The sea is the country’s wealth. The people of the country own this sea. We have to plan how to start factories from Banshkhali to Mirsarai, how to create employment and earn foreign exchange. Along with industrialisation, the foreign exchange earned will be invested in improving the living standards of the people of the country, healthcare and other sectors.”
