Former justice Khairul Haque granted bail in all cases

The High Court granted interim bail to retired Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque for six months in the attempt murder case filed with capital's Banani Police Station. 

A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Monday following a petition. 

The court issued a rule to the concerned parties asking them to explain why he would not be granted permanent bail.

On this day, Supreme Court senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury and lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju appeared in court on behalf of Khairul Haque while Deputy Attorney General Sayla Shazneen Shanta appeared for the state.

In this regard, as bail was granted in all the cases against Khairul Haque, there is no legal obstacle to his release, his lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju told Daily Samakal.

After the July Uprising, Justice Khairul Haque was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch from his residence in Dhanmondi in the capital on July 24, 2025. 

That night, he was shown arrested in the murder case of Jubo Dal activist Abdul Qayyum Ahad in Jatrabari and sent to jail. He has been in jail since then. 

In the past one year, he has been shown arrested in a total of nine cases of murder or attempted murder in the July Uprising, verdict 'forgery' and corruption. He has been granted bail in all of the cases, said Motahar Hossain Saju, senior lawyer of the Supreme Court.
