Class XI admission applications to begin September 15; classes likely from November 12

The Bangladesh Inter-Education Coordination Board Committee has proposed starting online admission applications for class XI from September 15, with classes expected to begin on November 12.

Under the proposal submitted to the Education Ministry on Thursday, the entire admission process—including selection, confirmation and final admission based on merit and preference—would be completed by November 10. 

The final schedule will be announced after ministry approval.

Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, president of the committee and chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, confirmed the plan. 

He said applications would open on September 15, followed by stepwise completion of the process so that teaching could start on November 12 if everything proceeds as planned.

Results of the SSC and equivalent examinations published on August 10 showed that 1,829,485 candidates appeared under 11 education boards, of whom 1,138,877 passed. Nearly 700,000 students therefore did not qualify for higher secondary admission this year.

Around 250,000 seats are available in colleges and madrasas nationwide. While there is no overall shortage of seats for those who passed, competition remains intense for places in higher-quality and popular institutions.

Last year, only 58.7 percent of available seats were filled, leaving about 41.3 percent vacant. Officials expect the number of vacant seats may rise further this year due to the lower pass rate.

More than 116,000 students achieved GPA-5 across the 11 boards, including 16,906 in the nine general education boards. Even so, limited seats at renowned colleges mean not all top scorers will secure places at their preferred institutions.
