Zahir Uddin Swapan resigns as Info Minister, appointed PM’s political adviser

Zahir Uddin Swapan has resigned as Minister of Information and Broadcasting and been appointed political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with the rank of minister.

Two separate notifications issued by the Cabinet Division on Saturday confirmed the changes. 

A notice signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani stated that President accepted Swapan’s resignation with immediate effect.

A second notification, issued under Rules 3B(1) and 3B(2) of the Rules of Business 1996, appointed him political adviser to the Prime Minister. While holding the post he will receive the rank, salary, allowances and other facilities of a minister.

Swapan was elected Member of Parliament for Barishal-1 (Gouranadi-Agailjhara) in the 13th National Parliament election and was appointed Information and Broadcasting Minister in the BNP-led government formed on February 17.
