3 killed in covered van-autorickshaw collision in Gazipur

Three people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-powered autorickshaw around 10 am on Saturday in the Kanchanpur Chairman Bari Bazar area of the Maona regional road in Kaliakoir, Gazipur. 

One of the deceased has been identified as Asadullah, 26, while the identities of the other two deceased were not immediately known. 

The injured are CNG driver Shakil, 35, Khokon Mia, 22, and Asadul Islam, 19.

According to local residents and police sources, a CNG-powered autorickshaw with five passengers was heading towards Maona from Kaliakoir Bazar. When it reached the Kanchanpur Chairman Bari Bazar area, it collided head-on with a speeding caravan van coming from the opposite direction. As a result, the CNG fell into a paddy field next to the road and twisted, and two people, including a woman, died on the spot. 

The injured were rescued and taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where another passenger died.

Police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and recovered the bodies and the two vehicles.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaliakair Police Station Shahidul Islam said that three people were killed and three others injured in the road accident. 

The injured, meanwhile, have been admitted to the hospital. Legal action is underway in the incident.
