Bidisha gets bail, no obstacles to release

The High Court has granted bail to Bidisha Siddique, wife of former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, who was sentenced to prison in a fraud case at the capital’s Gulshan Police Station in the name of selling a flat.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Khairul Alam and Justice Md Rafizul Islam granted the interim bail on Sunday.

Her lawyer Md Masud Mia confirmed the matter to journalists.

On May 20, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court sentenced Bidisha to two years in prison in a fraud case. She was also fined Tk 10,000. 

An arrest warrant was issued against her as she was absent from court that day. Later, on the basis of the warrant, she was arrested from a restaurant in Gulshan on the night of August 25. 

The next day, on August 26, her bail was rejected and she was sent to jail. 

Earlier, on September 2, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court rejected her bail request after an appeal was placed.
