ICT judgment in case against Obaidul Quader, six others on Tuesday

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has fixed on Tuesday to pronounce its judgment in a crimes against humanity case filed over killings during the July uprising against seven individuals, including Awami League (AL) General Secretary and former minister Obaidul Quader.

The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury set the date through a short order on Monday morning.

Earlier on August 17, the second tribunal had kept the case on CAV (curia advisari vult), a Latin legal term meaning "the court awaits judgment", as it concluded the arguments in the case on that day. The prosecution, in its arguments, sought the maximum punishment for the accused and confiscation of their properties. 

The other accused in the case are - Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and its General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, President of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League Saddam Hossain and its General Secretary Wali Asif Inan. 

The second tribunal on December 18, 2025, issued arrest warrants against the seven accused. The ICT-2 issued the order, taking the formal charge filed against the seven into cognisance.
