508 held across capital in 24hrs

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 508 people and filed 50 cases in a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital.

Mirpur Division accounted for the highest number of arrests at 135, followed by Tejgaon with 77, Motijheel 67, Wari 64, Lalbagh 48, Gulshan 43, Ramna 33, Uttara 33 and the Detective Branch eight.

The operations also led to the seizure of 36,649 yaba tablets, 32.1 kilogrammes of cannabis, 10 packets of heroin and eight bottles of Phensedyl.

Police additionally recovered two machetes, a knife, a vanity bag, 19 mobile phones, two gas lighters, two bottle tops, a battery-run auto-rickshaw, a banner, four litres of petrol and 14 bamboo torches, while also rescuing a victim.

The arrests and recoveries were made during separate operations in different police station areas of the capital.

Legal action against the arrested people is underway.
