Cigarette prices rise again

Cigarette prices have increased once more after the government raised the minimum price for a pack of 10 low-tier cigarettes from Tk 62 to Tk 65.

This information was disclosed in a notification issued by the National Board of Revenue on Wednesday. 

Prices for other tiers remain unchanged, with the rate for a pack of 10 medium-tier cigarettes staying at Tk 92, the high tier at Tk 160, and the premium tier at Tk 210 or above.

The Cabinet recently approved the proposal to hike prices for low-tier cigarettes. Previously, prices across all tiers were raised in the budget for the current 2026-27 fiscal year. 

At that time, the price for a 10-stick pack in the low tier was increased from Tk 60 to Tk 62. 

However, following the new decision, the price in this tier has risen by another Tk 3, bringing the minimum cost to Tk 65.

Additionally, the budget had set the price for the medium tier at Tk 92 (up from Tk 80), the high tier at Tk 160 (up from Tk 140), and the ultra-high or premium tier at Tk 210 (up from Tk 185).
