Dengue claims 87 lives in first 20 days of September; 1,593 hospitalised in 24 hours

The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to deteriorate. Six more patients succumbed to the disease in the 24 hours ending at 8:00 am Sunday, pushing the death toll for September to 87 in just the first 20 days of the month. 

During the same 24-hour, 1,593 people were newly admitted to hospitals across the country.

With these latest fatalities, the total number of dengue deaths this year has risen to 184, while hospital admissions have climbed past 61,972.

The updated figures were released Sunday in the daily dengue bulletin issued by the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the patients admitted in the last 24 hours, Dhaka Division—excluding the city corporations—recorded the highest number at 383, followed by Khulna Division with 290. 

Chattogram saw 165 admissions, Barishal 159, and Rajshahi 137, while Dhaka North City Corporation admitted 171 patients and Dhaka South City Corporation 132. Elsewhere, Mymensingh reported 82 admissions, Rangpur 65, and Sylhet 9.

The bulletin further stated that 1,587 dengue patients were discharged after recovering during the same period, bringing the total number of recoveries to date to 57,610.
