Court orders attachment of ex-air chief Hannan's land

A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the attachment of 34 decimals of land owned by former Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal (retd) Shaikh Abdul Hannan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir passed the order after hearing an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the ACC application, a case was filed against Hannan over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income through abuse of power, causing losses to state funds, taking bribes, recruitment trading, embezzlement through various irregularities and corruption, and laundering money abroad.

During the investigation, the ACC found information that Hannan had allegedly acquired a substantial amount of movable and immovable property both at home and abroad.

The commission told the court that it had received information that attempts were being made to transfer, relocate or dispose of the assets, prompting the need for their attachment.

The 34 decimals of land are located in Kismat Malipaton mouza under Gopalpur Union of Kachua upazila in Bagerhat. The deed shows the value of the land at Tk 17.64 lakh. Considering the ACC application, the court ordered the attachment of the aforementioned land.
