Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury sworn in as HC permanent judge

Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury on Thursday took the oath as a permanent judge of the High Court Division.

Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury administered the oath to Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 11:00 am, in presence of judges of both divisions of the Supreme Court and officials of the apex court administration.

The President on September 21 appointed Additional Judge of the High Court Division Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury as a permanent judge of the same division.

“The appointment was made by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice under Article 95 of the Constitution,” said a gazette notification issued by the Law and Justice Division on that day. 

Born on March 1, 1981, Justice Chowdhury obtained LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, a Post Graduate Diploma from the College of Law, of England and Wales, United Kingdom and Certificates in Laws from Holborn College, United Kingdom.

He was enrolled as an advocate of the district court in 2005, at the High Court Division in 2007, and at the Appellate Division in 2018, respectively. 

Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on October 8, 2024.
