Dengue claims 8 lives in a day

Health officials on Thursday said they recorded 1,782 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts killing at least eight persons in the last 24 hours.

“During the period, (of the 1,782) 164 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 288 in Chattogram division, 371 in Dhaka division, 194 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 151 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 286 in Khulna division, 108 in Mymensingh division, 130 in Rajshahi division, 73 in Rangpur division and 17 in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 209 deaths while the disease inflicted 69,149.

The dengue last year claimed 413 lives and inflicted 1,02,861 people in the country.
