Two dengue deaths; 955 more admitted to hospital in 24 hrs

Two people died from dengue across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the disease this year to 211. 

During this period 955 people were admitted to hospitals.

This brings the total number of dengue deaths this year to 211. 

Of these, 115 people lost their lives in September, marking the highest monthly death toll of the year so far.

This information was disclosed on Friday in the DGHS’s regular report on the dengue situation.

According to the DGHS, the two deceased individuals were undergoing treatment at hospitals within the two Dhaka city corporation areas.

The report indicates that 76 people were admitted to hospitals in the Dhaka North City Corporation area, while 113 were admitted in the South City area. 

Outside the two city corporations, 241 people were admitted to other hospitals within the Dhaka division. 

Admissions in other divisions included 44 in Barishal, 246 in Chattogram, 130 in Khulna, 37 in Mymensingh, 44 in Rangpur and four in Sylhet.

The DGHS stated that 953 people were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment in the last 24 hours. 

A total of 70,104 people have been hospitalised with dengue this year, with 64,827 of them having been discharged.

The DGHS has been maintaining records of hospital admissions and deaths related to dengue since 2000. 

Among these years, 2023 saw the highest number of hospitalisations, with 321,179 people admitted due to the disease. That year also saw the highest number of deaths from dengue, totalling 1,705.
