Bangladesh, Turkiye discuss PM's participation in COP31

Bangladesh and Turkiye have discussed the possible participation of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in COP31, to be hosted by Turkiye in Antalya.

The discussion was taken place when State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir met Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the upcoming climate summit, including the prime minister's possible participation. However, the press release did not mention any decision in this regard.

The two sides also discussed high-level visits, defence cooperation, renewable and green energy and investment opportunities for Turkish companies in Bangladesh.

Kobir invited Turkiye to participate in an international sports conference that Bangladesh plans to host in early 2027.

Both sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
