Attempt to occupy house in Adabor, attack and vandalism with local weapons

An allegation has been raised of an attempt to occupy a house in the Shyamoli Housing area of Adabar in the capital. 

On Saturday morning, a group of 20 to 25 people attacked the house with local weapons. At that time, they hacked at the main gate of the house with choppers and ramdas, and also vandalised CCTV cameras and window glass.

The incident occurred around 6:30 am on Saturday. 

Md. Raju, nephew of the house owner Aminur Rahman Khan, said the attackers first opened the main gate of the house and told everyone to come out. 

When no one came out from inside, they continued to threaten from outside, saying “Give money, stay in the house but don’t give money. Come out.” At one stage, they started randomly hacking at the gate with choppers and ramdas.

Raju said the attackers vandalised the CCTV cameras in front of the house gate and the window glass. Later, they also broke the glass of two more windows on the second floor with pieces of brick.

He said, “After the attack on the house at dawn, many tenants came downstairs. Then the police were informed. When we went to the thana, we were told that the OC of Adabar Thana was busy with other work. After that, a complaint was lodged describing the entire incident.”

Regarding this, Adabar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahidul Islam said, “We have received a complaint about house occupation and a show of force with weapons in Adabor. Investigation is underway on this matter. Efforts are being made to arrest the accused.”

Raju alleged that after calling 999, the police arrived at the scene around 9:45 am, nearly three hours later. However, denying this allegation, the OC said, “The police went to the scene as soon as they received the information.”

Raju further alleged that earlier, the OC of Adabar Thana was once seen standing in front of that house making a video on a mobile phone. He also said they have CCTV footage of this incident.

When asked about this, OC Zahidul Islam said, “There was a complaint regarding this house. My policing style is different. I work alone. Video was taken in front of that house for investigation purposes.”
