Nine more children die with measles symptoms

Nine children died with symptoms of measles in the 24 hours ending 8:00 am Sunday, although none of the deaths were confirmed to have been caused by the disease, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

Four of the deaths were reported in Dhaka Division, two each in Sylhet and Chattogram, and one in Mymensingh, according to a DGHS statement issued Sunday.

The latest fatalities push this year's toll from measles and measles-like illness to 1,096. Of those, 101 deaths were confirmed as measles, while the remaining 995 involved patients exhibiting symptoms of the disease.

Health authorities also confirmed 113 new measles cases during the same period, bringing the cumulative count of confirmed infections to 21,212.

In addition, 1,228 people were identified with measles symptoms in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of suspected cases to 188,041.
