Teachers reject Nahid’s assurance, to continue hunger strike

The teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions, who are observing the indefinite hunger strike in front of National Press Club in Dhaka, rejected the assuring words of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.      

Rejecting the minister's assurance, they announced to continue their programme demanding a specific time frame for inclusion into the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) system.   

Non-MPO Shikhya Pratishthan Shikhyak Karmachari Federation Binoy Bhushan Roy came up with the announcement on Tuesday.  

The education minister went to the National Press Club around 11:00am and assured the Non-MPO teachers to meet their demand asking them to end their hunger strike.

Nahid said the finance minister gave his concession to take steps to bring all the recognised non-MPO educational institutions under the MPO facilities.    

The demonstrating teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions started the indefinite hunger strike on Sunday morning.

They were staging sit-in programme since December 26 demanding their enlistment under the government’s Monthly Payment Order (MPO) facilities.
