Bus strike called on Dhaka-Chattogram route

Bus transport workers and owners have called a strike on the Dhaka-Chattogram route from morning to evening on Monday demanding an end to the heavy traffic congestion on the highway.   

Besides, they declared not to ply passenger buses from 12:00pm to 3:00pm everyday on the highway if the authorities failed to resolve the problem by Monday.   

The Bus Owners Association and the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Union jointly called the strike on Sunday.  

Confirming the matter, Inter-District Bus Owners Association General Secretary Kafil Uddin said that alongside the sufferings of the travellers, the transport owners are also facing financial losses due to the congestion.

"If this situation will go continuous, the traffic congestion on the highway will be more extreme during the upcoming Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr," he added.

Meanwhile, the traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway has been continuing for the past several days. A 34-kilometre long traffic gridlock stretching from Feni to Mirsarai's Boro Darogar Hat area has been seen today.
