Singer Asif lands in jail

A Dhaka court has sent singer Asif Akbar to jail after rejecting both the remand and bail petitions in a case filed under Information Technology Act. 

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Keshab Roy Chowdhury passed the order on Wednesday.   

Earlier in the day, Tejgaon police produced Asif before the court with a five-day remand prayer.

Defence counsel of Asif submitted a petition seeking Asif’s bail and a plea for cancellation of the remand prayer.

After hearing, the court rejected both the remand and bail prayers and ordered to send him to jail.   

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Asif in a case filed by musician and singer Shafiq Tuhin with Tejgaon police station in the capital under Information Technology Act. 

According to case statement, Asif sold out digital copies of several songs without permission of the singers and he issued public threats and demeaned Shafiq Tuhin on Facebook live.
