Quota reformists attacked again

The quota reformists were come under attack again on Monday when they gathered on the Central Shaheed Minar premises to hold their pre-scheduled programme.   

Two quota reformists sustained injuries during the attack while a female reformist was physically assaulted by the attackers.   

The leaders of quota reform movement alleged that the attackers were the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Dhaka University and colleges of adjacent areas.   

On the other hand, Mehedi Hasan Sunny, general secretary of BCL's Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall unit, denied the allegation of beating the quota reformists.  

"We have the information that they (quota reformists) will bring out flag procession and use the flag sticks to launch attack. So, we have resisted them and handed over to the police to prevent sabotage," Mehedi added.    

Faruk Hosen, joint convener of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, and a female student were arrested during the attack, said Abul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station.

The OC, however, refused to give any further information in this regard.

Earlier on Saturday, several leaders of the central committee of the council were injured in an attack allegedly by some BCL activists on Dhaka University campus.

Protesting the attack, the students’ council called for an indefinite boycott of classes and examinations in all universities and colleges across the country from Sunday.

Meanwhile, six activists of quota reform movement were injured in an attack reportedly by the activists of BCL near the Central Library at Rajshahi university campus on Sunday.
