Two killed as bus ploughs into students on Airport road

Two students of Dhaka’s Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were crushed to death by a bus on Airport Road in Kurmitola area on Sunday. 

12 others also injured in the road crash occurred around 12:30am. Nine of them were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

The deceased were identified as Abdul Karim and Dia Khatun Mim. They were the class XII and XI students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College respectively. 

Students from the educational institution took to the streets and blocked the road following the incident. The agitated students also vandalized at least 30 vehicles.     

Jahangir Alam, an eyewitness, said the accident occurred when a Uttara-bound bus of ‘Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’ ploughed through the students as they were standing beside the road, leaving two of them dead on the spot and 12 others injured.  

Rezaul Islam, assistant sub-inspector of Cantonment Police Station, said police are trying to bring the situation under control and make way of the vehicles through other routes.
