Defamation case: HC grants 6-month bail to Khaleda

The High Court has granted six-month bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a defamation case filed against her in Narail over her 'derogatory remarks' about freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

After hearing on a petition in this regard, the HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kashefa Hussain passed the order on Monday.  

Khaleda’s lawyer filed the petition with HC seeking her bail on Thursday as Narail District and Session Judge Court rejected her bail petition on August 5. 

On December 21, 2015, Khaleda Zia at a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh raised questions about the actual number of Liberation War martyrs saying, "There're controversies over how many were martyred in the Liberation War. There're also many books and documents on the controversies."

Reacting over the Khaleda's remarks, Raihan Farooque Imam of Naragati in Narail filed a case with the Cognisance Court on December 24, 2015.
