Shahidul Alam taken to BSMMU

Photographer Shahidul Alam was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for medical treatment on Wednesday morning following the High Court order.  

He was taken to BSMMU from police custody around 9:00am, said Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) Abdul Baten.

The HC yesterday directed the authorities concerned of the government and police to immediately send the detained photographer to BSMMU for his treatment. 

Earlier on Sunday night, detectives detained Shahidul Alam, Drik Gallery Managing Director and Chairman of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, from his Dhanmondi residence following his Facebook posts on the student protests demanding road safety.

Later on Monday, he was shown arrested under Section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT).  

Police produced him before the court on the same day seeking a 10-day remand. Meanwhile, the court placed him on a seven-day remand.
