Gulshan attack: Arrest orders for 2 fugitives

A special tribunal in Dhaka accepted the charge sheet against eight militants in a case filed over the militant attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka's Gulshan.  

Judge Mujibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal in Dhaka passed the order on Wednesday.  

The court also issued arrest warrants against two fugitive charge-sheeted accused. They are Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon and Shariful Islam Khaled.     

The court, however, ordered to release former North South University teacher Hasnat Karim, whose name was dropped from the charge sheet submitted on July 23, from police custody. 

Earlier on July 23, police filed a charge sheet against eight of 21 suspects over the militant attack as 13 suspects were killed in various security force operations, which is why they were dropped from the charge sheet.   

The charge-sheeted are: 'Neo-JMB operatives Rakibul Islam Regan, Hadisur Rahman Sagor, Jahangir Hossain Rajeeb alias Rajeeb Gandhi, Aslam Hossain Rashed alias Rash, Abdus Sabur Khan alias Sohel Mahfuj, Mizanur Rahman alias Baro Mizan, Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon and Shariful Islam Khaled.

Six of the charge-sheeted accused are currently in prison, while two -- Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon and Shariful Islam Khaled -- are on the run. 

Twenty hostages -- nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi American and two Bangladeshis -- were killed in the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan on July 1, 2016. 

Besides, two senior police officers -- Banani Police Station officer-in-charge Salauddin Ahmed Khan and Detective Branch assistant commissioner Robiul Islam -- were killed when they tried to rescue the hostages.
