Commuters suffer amid transport strike

Commuters in Dhaka and other parts of the country are suffering immensely to reach their destinations due to the 48-hour strike of the transport workers.  

The transport workers under the banner of 'Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation' has started their work abstention from 6:00am today (Sunday) which will end at 6:00am on Tuesday.   

No public transports were seen plying on the city roads while many people were seen walking or travelling by rickshaws or CNG-run auto-rickshaws to reach their destinations. 

The transport workers on Saturday declared to stage the 48-hour strike from Sunday across the country to press home their eight-point demand.  

Their demands include making all offences by road accident 'bailable', cancellation of the provision of fining Tk 500,000 for involvement in a road accident, and lowering minimum educational qualification required for obtaining driving licences to class V from class VIII.
