Youth set police vehicle on fire identified: Cops

The youth who set fire to a police vehicle during the clash with BNP activists in front of the party’s Nayapaltan Central office in Dhaka yesterday has been identified, police have claimed.    

Mishu Biswas, assistant commissioner (Motijheel zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, on Thursday, said the arsonist is Shahjalal Khandaker, a member of the convening committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal's (JCD) Paltan unit.

Another youth who was hopping on the vehicle was also identified, he said adding that he is also an activist of the Chhatra Dal. 

Police arrested at least 50 people in three cases for the attack on police, torching vehicles and vandalism. The identified two youths were not among the arrestees, said Mishu Biswas.  

Chase, counter-chase and picketing were taken place during the clash at Nayapaltan yesterday while the BNP activists set at least two vehicles of police on fire and also vandalised some other vehicles.
