Samrat taken to jail from hospital

Expelled Dhaka South Jubo League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, who was admitted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the city due to 'illness, has been released on Saturday morning.

He was taken to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj after release at 11 am, said its deputy jailer Jahedul Alam.

On Tuesday, Samrat was taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the city due to 'illness'.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 7:30 am and then he was sent to NICVD at 8 am after he complained of chest pain at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

Samrat along with his aide Arman was arrested on October 6 from Chauddagram Upazila of Comilla. Following his arrest, he was expelled from the organization at noon.

A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) sent Samrat to Dhaka Central Jail while his accomplice Enamul Haque Arman to Comilla Jail on the day.

Earlier in the day, they were sentenced to six-month imprisonment each in separate cases.

Samrat was awarded with imprisonment under Wildlife Preservation and Security Act, 2012 while Arman got punishment under Narcotics Control Act by Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam.

In addition to the kangaroo hides, a large amount of foreign liquor, yaba, arms and bullets were recovered from his office, said Sarwar.

After the launch of the anti-casino drive in the capital on September 18, the name of the Jubo League leader came to light.

Many, including members of the law enforcers, suspect that Samrat is the king of the casino business in Dhaka. Moreover, there are also allegations of tender manipulation and extortion against him.

Following the anti-casino drive, Samrat stayed in his office at Bhuiyan Mansion in Kakrail and hundreds of supporters guarded him during his stay there.

Then the mystery of Samrat's whereabouts was created. However, at that time, the law enforcers said that the Jubo League leader was under their watch.

On September 24, the government imposed a travel ban on Samrat. Bangladesh Bank also sought details of his bank accounts.
