BNP MP Harun gets bail

The High Court (HC) has granted a six-month bail to BNP lawmaker Md Harunur Rashid after he filed an appeal against a lower court’s verdict that gave him five years imprisonment in a corruption case.

The single bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain passed the order on Monday after Harun moved to the HC against the trial court’s verdict.

On October 21, a Dhaka court sentenced the MP elected from Chapainawabganj-3 constituency to five-year imprisonment in a case filed for abusing duty-free import privilege.

Judge of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Shaikh Nazmul Alam handed down the verdict with Tk 50 lakh fine, in default, to suffer six months more imprisonment.

A tax-dodging case was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
