6 children killed in Mirpur gas cylinder blast

Six children were killed and at least five others injured in a gas cylinder blast in the city's Mirpur on Wednesday afternoon.

Rupnagar Police Station OC Abul Kalam Azad told the Daily Samakal that the incident took place at 3:45 pm on Road No. 11 at Rupnagar.

The cylinder blasted while pumping gas in a balloon, leaving five children dead on the scene and injured four to five others, he added. Later, death of another child was confirmed.

The casualties were seen to Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, the OC added.

Of the victims, two are girls and three are boys, said Professor Dr Uttam Kumar, director of the hospital.
