Transport strike paralyses parts of country

Traffic movement has been kept stopped on various highways in the country since Wednesday morning, demanding reforms of the new road transport law.

Thousands of commuters have been suffering much due to sudden transport strike.

Narayanganj

Narayanganj public transport workers have called for a strike since Wednesday morning.

Vehicular movements of all transport have been kept closed on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes since the morning.

Transport workers have blocked the road in Narayanganj's Signboard area demanding the repeal of the new Road Transport Act-2018.

As a result, hundreds of commuters traveling on these routes have been suffering much.

Khulna

An indefinite transport strike has been underway in Khulna for the third consecutive day on Monday to protest the implementation of new road transport law.

On Wednesday, no bus has left from Sonadanga inter-district bus terminal for Dhaka, putting passengers into untold sufferings.

Tangail

Transport workers in Tangail have begun an indefinite strike. They have stopped almost all buses from the new bus terminal in Tangail at around 11 am on Wednesday.

Road communications among Tangail, Dhaka, Mymensingh and other districts have become standstill.

Magura
Due to a four-day long strike strike, all route buses have been stopped with Magura.

On the first day of the strike the bus service was stopped only on Jessore-Magura road, but on the second day the bus stopped on all routes from Magura to all internal, inter-district, Dhaka.

Bogra

Plying of buses have been kept closed since Wednesday on all routes of Bogra. Earlier on Tuesday, only six internal bus routes were closed.

Transport workers are also obstructing the movement of CNG-driven autorickshaw on the highways. As a result, the passengers are suffering much.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the District Motor Workers Union, Shamsuddin Sheikh Helal claimed that they had no workers' strike.
